"So, by now you have all your seed starting gear cleaned and ready. You have your seeds and sterile growing media and you have even filled your containers and watered them in so the media is moist and ready. Great job!
Next step…BEFORE you even dare to open a seed packet…. is to create name markers for each planted cell. Never ever think you will remember which is which. You will not. Your sprouts can all look alike at plant out in May! Save yourself some anguish and make your labels ahead of time! It’s a good idea also to write your starting date on the back. You won’t remember that either!
For labels, you can use store bought garden markers or popsicle sticks, but here’s a secret hack. Get some old window blinds from thrift stores or places like the Habitat for Humanity restores. Believe it or not, they are readily available and they are cheap cheap cheap. To use, just spray them off with a hose, cut the strings that hold them together and then cut the long strips into 3-4” pieces. Voilà! 100’s of tags for very little cash! Plus you are recycling too!
This is a great winter project after you have put your garden to bed. Get the kids cutting too! Also put the word out to family and friends who may be renovating. One friend of mine trash picked two sets for me from her church dumpster! Now that’s a true friend…..
Another tip…Saturday is 50% off day at many thrift stores. Just saying..🤣👍🏻🌿"
